“From little acorns mighty oak trees grow”
We value effort and celebrate success
We welcome you and your family to Northumberland Heath Primary School.
We hope that your child will enjoy coming to school and we shall do all we can to create a caring, stimulating environment in which your child will learn and grow.
We encourage close links between the home and school to foster this development and we hope that you will participate actively in this partnership.
Northumberland Heath Primary is a happy friendly school with a hard working caring staff. We trust that you will work with us to ensure that children develop good attitudes towards work and behaviour. We emphasise a positive approach to behaviour. Pupils are expected to maintain a high standard of work and behaviour for which they are regularly rewarded. We believe in praise for good work and behaviour as well as improvement and effort in these areas. We also acknowledge and encourage the development of essential social skills. This approach is used consistently throughout the school thus promoting a good self-image and respect for other people. For this reason bullying of any kind will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We aim to encourage highly motivated pupils who co-operate in their learning and adopt a self-disciplined, responsible approach to themselves and others.
The rewards children receive are varied and include verbal praise, house points, Head Teacher’s Awards, certificates, raffle tickets and Star of the Week nominations. Pupils who receive a Head Teacher’s award or are named as Star of the Week have their achievements acknowledged in assembly.
Discipline is based on our ‘Code of Conduct’ which is displayed in all classrooms and frequently discussed with the children in assemblies and in class.
CODE OF CONDUCT
At Northumberland Heath Primary School it is expected that all pupils follow the code of conduct as set out below.
• I always play safely keeping my hands and my feet to myself
• I always share with the other children
• I always say nice things to other people
• I am always polite to adults and children
• I always walk around the school and its grounds
• I always do as I am asked first time
In addition each class will discuss and decide together their own particular rules, rewards and sanctions, which are also displayed.
There are clear procedures for dealing with occasions when the ‘Code of Conduct’ is broken. Details of these can be found in the full Behaviour Policy, a copy of which is enclosed in this pack and also on the school’s website.
The class teacher is responsible for the management of behaviour of their class and will ensure that parents are kept informed of incidents, good or otherwise, as necessary. However, there may be occasions when contact, (a telephone call or letter) may be made directly by the Deputy Head Teacher or Head Teacher. The class teacher will be informed of any incidents that involve a child in their class which occur during the break sessions.
The class teacher is also the main link with parents regarding their children’s progress and parents are encouraged to discuss any concerns they may have with their child’s teacher in the first instance.
We ask for your support to enable us to work together to achieve these aims. We also ask you to support our policies to encourage attendance, punctuality, behaviour, smart appearance and completion of homework.
As your child moves through the primary years, we hope that he/she will be able to develop his/her full potential acquiring a firm foundation on which to build.
